I never can it fathom
why Jesus went my way,
my life was once in sinful gloom
that held on me its sway,
the gospel gripped my callous heart,
He bent in grace my ear
 and my resistance He did break
in that chilly autumn year!

I see in my Redeemer
my standing in His grace,
despite my many frailties
that make me hide my face,
in Him God sees me blameless still
with access to His Throne,
sprinkled with the cleansing blood of Christ  (1 Pet. 1:2)
as my rocky ground alone!

A life with godly manners
His grace is teaching me,
I love Him ´cause He loved me first,
praise God  I did this see,
His Spirit to that freedom point
we find in Christ alone,
lo, no bondage is there anymore
in that blessed Cornerstone!
